Too Early
Of course the pub is not open yet. The original open date that I saw was July 18. I am getting the results of my MRI on that day and thought that afterwards I could come to this brand new pub and either celebrate the good news or commiserate the bad news. The wife told me that I was wrong, and that it must mean July 2018. In the end we are both wrong, according to the official web site it is ‘August 2017’. So just after my birthday.
Parking in Ramsgate is not fun. There is a lot of on street parking, but no spaces. When a space does become available there is a mad rush of people fighting to get to it. We caused a bit of anger whilst looking for a space. Finally, we went to the carpark after the town, and it was nearly empty, great news you say, well if you want to buy a piece of real estate maybe. £4 for one hour, I don’t want to own the damn spot. I was the 3rd person in the queue to get to the cash machine, moan, and then drive off. No wonder it had loads of spaces. Come on Ramsgate, sort it out.
In the end we drove back out of Ramsgate and found a space along the top of the hill, there was a ‘it’s a knockout’ thing going on, so it was busy, but thanks to a skilful bit of parking we were finally here. The toilets nearby were horrible, The wife said she would now needs a full sanitisation. The walk down to the town is really nice, the cliff has some lovely flower arrangements and there is a great view. Although it was a long walk it was worth it.
We walked back in the main town. It was getting a lot hotter and the back of my neck was starting to burn. As you walk into the town there is a ‘wilko’, so we went in there (we went in the ‘out’ door and nearly got squished), found some cheap(ish) spray sun tan location.
Ice cream next on the agenda, I had a great mint choc chip and a honeycomb thing, Katherine went coffee and salted caramel. We sat inside, I am not sure if we should have done, but no-one asked us to leave. We used the toilets outside the new spoons and took a few photos
Then we went to the Queens Head to get a beer. It’s a really nice pub, there is a young girl outside singing Maroon 5 (the wife's favourite band). It’s almost a shame that I am only doing a spoons blog as it could mean that I miss out on good local pubs. It has a strange layout, with quite a small main bar and three entrances. Most people are sitting outside, but I am pleased to get some shade. Katherine says she is happy to stay here and I can see why. We just about get a view of the harbour.
Sadly someone has a motorbike and wants to rev the damn thing just in front of the singer, I was quite impressed she didn’t miss a note.
After a while we decided to move on. The Wife was not ready to go home. She had text gamma several times as she wanted to pop in and see him on the way home. He ignored the texts as he normally does.
We took the walk back to the car, it really was lovely, the breeze had died down a little and by the time we got to the top we were both feeling very hot and bothered.
Once in the car we took a drive back via Canterbury. I phoned gamma and he was happy for us to visit, so we popped in and chatted for a while and then finally back home to Ashford. A perfect weekend, and still time to watch a movie and grab some Chinese from Wok Express (our personal favourite). Gamma loves it too, shame he decided to move to Canterbury isn't it.
